Welcome back to another Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by that artsy reader girl since 2018. It was born out of a love for books and lists. It intends to bring bookworms together. This week's prompt was books that we'd read during a storm. Honestly, I don't get a lot of storms (other than sandstorms) where I live, but I thought it would be fun to imagine what books I would reach for in those situations. I don't know if I'll get to ten, hopefully, I'll have enough for this list. To make things a little more organized I've decided to sort my picks into books I would read during a rainstorm, snowstorm, and sandstorm. Links will take you to my reviews.
This Week's Topic: Books To Read During A Storm
During A Rainstorm
1. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
When I thought of rain one of the first books that came to mind was A Curse So Dark and Lonely. I'm not sure why, but the vibe of some parts of the story feels perfect for stormy weather.
2. Eva Evergreen - Semi Magical Witch by Julie Abe
3. The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant
Rather than the atmosphere, the storm in the opening scene in this book is such an exhilarating way to start. I just had to add this book for that storm alone.
4. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
I don't know about you, but sometimes what I want to read during a storm is a good mystery. What better way to spend my time than reading The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes. Strangely reading during a storm makes me want to read the short story collection rather than a novel. Also, 221 Baker's Street is in London, and when I think London I think unending rainfall.
During A Snowstorm
1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The first chapter of The Night Circus will always come to mind when I think of snow. Imagining myself waiting for the circus to open just conjures an image of a snowstorm.
2. I Am Half-Sick Of Shadows by Alan Bradley
3. A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft
One of the best books I read this year. A Far Wilder Magic made it's way on to my list because of its atmosphere. It often feels like a cold wintery tale which makes me think of snow and stormy weather.
4. Murder On The Orient Express by Agatha Christie
The Murder On The Orient Express is one of the first books that came to mind when I thought of snow. After all, the train passengers face quite an inconvenience because of it.
During A Sandstorm
1. Spin The Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
I don't know why but a sandstorm makes me want to read something adventurous, and of course, with a desert. Spin The Dawn immediately came to mind as one of the places the main characters go to on their quest is in the middle of the harsh, scorching desert, where sandstorms are fatal.
2. We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal
My first desert/Arabian inspired fantasy. When I think of sand We Hunt The Flame is what I want to read.
If you haven't read my review of Powerless by Lauren Roberts yet, you can do so here.
Thanks for reading!

A great looking list. In the South East of the UK we don't have many storms at all (luckily!). Where I am specifically we miss a lot of the bad weather so I am very lucky!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

I love that you've broken it down into types of storms. 🙂
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the topic and list of books! We Hunt the Flame is so incredibly perfect for a sandstorm vibe and I could definitely see myself reading ACSDAL during a rainstorm.
ReplyDeleteA sandstorm is my personal nightmare lol - loved this list! I am so intrigued by The Hatmakers, I will check that out! And so true about reading mysteries in a storm - I do love finishing them in a single sitting because I just have to know and a storm is a great time to go on that journey haha
ReplyDeleteEach time I see a book by Agatha Christie, I'm reminded that I need to give one of hers a chance! I also owned Brigid Kemmerer's once upon a time but never read it so I think it unhauled it. It sure sounded fun though! Thanks so much for visiting my list today!
ReplyDeleteEva Evergreen is so cute, loved the audiobook. I need to check The Hatmakers, the cover is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI thought Spin the Dawn was quite good, but I didn't like the sequel unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteMurder on the Orient Express is such a great read during a storm.

I like you you divided your list into different types of storms. I agree that mysteries are good for rainy days! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI read all of Sherlock Holmes during the pandemic when I couldn't go anywhere. It's a good memory of a bad time.
ReplyDeleteThese are some great choices. Love how you broke it down by storm type.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get a lot of winter storms really. At least not with snow or anything.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover of The Hatmakers! So cute!
Eva is such a perfect choice for a rainstorm!
ReplyDeleteahh I still haven't read A Curse so Dark and Lonely 😠it's been on my TBR for quite some time but hopefully, I'll read it this winter because for some reason, winter for me is the perfect time to read all those long fantasy novels
ReplyDeleteWelcome to The Booklore Fairy! I'd love to hear from you.
