Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Never Reviewed

This is a banner for Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome back to another Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by that artsy reader girl since 2018. This week's topic is books I've read but have not reviewed. I've listed a few books I read before I started my blog so I wasn't able to review them.

This week's topic: Books I never reviewed

1. Daughter of The Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

I read this book a few years ago, and I thought it was alright. There was a lot of hype around this book at the time and I was so eager to read it, but sadly it didn't live up to the hype. I liked parts of the story and I loved the romance but it just wasn't as amazing as I was expecting it to be.

2. A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson

I've read this whole trilogy and I thought it was very enjoyable. I love a good mystery and these were amazing. They were fast-paced and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. Though I have to confess, the last book was my least favorite while the first was the best.

3. Inferno by Dan Brown

Inferno was the first Dan Brown book I read and at the time it was a new experience for me since I only used to read middle-grade fantasy. It's still my favorite of the Robert Langdon books and I will always have a space in my bookshelf for it.

4. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I've been hearing people rave about this series since I was in school, so when my sister bought a copy when we were on vacation I couldn't wait to find out what the fuss was all about. Sadly, I didn't understand the hype at all. The story honestly read like a Wattpad book, and the writing seemed strange at times. I'm going to try to read more in the series as people have told me it gets better after the third book or so, but it's not a high priority at the moment.

5. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne

I've read three Jules Verne books till now and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea is the one I like the least. There I things I liked about it of course, the adventure, the underwater world, and Captain Nemo to name a few, but overall I was left painfully bored.

6. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

A book that actually lived up to all the hype around it! I loved The Night Circus, the atmospheric writing is some of the best I've read, and the circus itself is so whimsical. I love the relationship between the two characters so much and I couldn't get enough of them.

7. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

This is the book cover for A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

I read A Curse So Dark and Lonely a few years ago and it was a lot of fun! It's a unique spin on a Beauty and the Beast retelling and I loved all of the characters. Sadly, I've only read the first book, and I've heard that it doesn't have the best ending, especially for the characters I love the most, so I probably won't read the other two just yet.

8. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

I've read The Lies of Locke Lamora twice now. The first time I didn't like it and couldn't bring myself to finish it properly and the second time I loved it. It's such a unique and clever plot I still think fondly of the book. However, I didn't like the second book, or maybe I need to give it another shot and see if my opinion changes like it did the first time ;)

9. Skullduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy

I read Skullduggery Pleasant years ago after hearing great things about the series from BookTube. I thought it was a lot like Percy Jackson and that the plot didn't seem any different from the other middle grades I had read. I don't remember it much now, but I only read the first book. Maybe I'll try reading the second some time.

If you haven't read my review of Georgie Summers and the Scribes of Scatterplot yet you can do so here. Thanks for reading!

  5. There were so many books I loved and didn't end up reviewing because it was before I started blogging or seriously keeping track on Goodreads. I think A Curse So Dark and Lonely was one that I read when I was blogging but for some reason I didn't review it. I can't wait to read Locke Lamora—it's such a well-loved book/series! :)

  6. I read The Daughter of the Pirate King when it was rereleased two years ago or so and it did not work for me at all either.
I also never picked up the sequels to a curse so dark and lonely. I enjoyed the story but then there was that epilogue and I lost interest pretty much right away for anything beyond that story.

  8. Totally agree with you on the AGGGTM series. I really enjoyed it overall, but the first book was definitely the best and the last was by far the worst! Ha ha. I've never read 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, but the movie absolutely terrified me as a kid.

    Happy TTT!

  9. I loved Daughter of the Pirate King but never got to the second book. And I also loved the Shatter Me series. I think I did mini-reviews on those since I'd had ARCs of them.

  10. I loved The Night Circus too. I was so immersed in their world. I haven't read any of the others, but I really like the sound of The Lies of Locke Lamora. My husband's been telling me I should read it. A Curse So Dark and Lonely is another one I hope to read. Great list!

    1. I read that whole series, and was so underwhelmed that I totally get your personal vendetta! against Shatter Me. I don't have a vendetta against that one, but I do for The Selection series and Zodiac Academy.

  15. Great list! I probably have close to an equal number of books that I read and books on my TBR, just from the books on your list. And while so many people loved The Night Circus, I was part of the small minority that didn't like it. I know I've found my people when I see The Lies of Locke Lamora on a top ten list!
